Educational Classes
AI and Healthcare
AI is all over the news. Is it truly going to change everything, or is it just hype? In this class, we will examine the history of AI, dive into how modern/Generative AI works, and look at its applications in healthcare. Participants will gain an understanding of the current state of AI in healthcare and acquire the groundwork to start forming their own opinions about its potential. Along the way, we will demystify terms like NLP, LLM, RAG, and more.
HL7 Standards:
v2 to FHIR
Exchanging clinical data is challenging, data is fractured and obscured. Over the years, HL7 has worked to develop standards that help address these challenges. In this class, we will explore the history of those standards and will cover each standard at a high level. Participants will gain an understanding of why we have different standards, when to apply them, and what resources are available to learn more.
HL7 FHIR Deep Dive
Fast Healthcare Interoperable Resources (FHIR) is the latest standard from HL7 for exchanging healthcare data. It has gained a lot of traction recently, partially due to its inclusion in several US government mandates. In this class we will look at what FHIR is, what makes it different, and how to read FHIR documentation. Participants will gain an understanding of how and when to use FHIR. We will also demystify terms like Resource, API, Profile, Implementation Guide, and more.
Interoperability in Healthcare
We live in an increasingly fluid world. People move around and they need their healthcare data to follow. However, connecting healthcare systems is not easy. In this class, we will cover the basic concepts of interoperability, key elements of an interoperability strategy, and what are some of the current solutions on the market. Participants will gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities with interoperability. Participants will also learn the meaning of terms such as HL7 FHIR, ETL, Cloud Computing, and more.
